welcome

Welcome to the Thagard Student Health Center’s Student Insurance Management Information System (SIMIS). This site has been developed to provide FSU parents, students, post doctoral fellows and visiting scholars with valuable information for transition into the FSU network of support.
Healthy students meet their academic goals.  Thagard Student Health Center administers the requirement for insurance coverage for the university.  Every full-time student must show proof of comparable health insurance prior to registration once each year.
A parent’s or other insurance is acceptable as comparable if it meets the following minimum requirements:

  • Prescription coverage
  • A provider network in the Tallahassee/Leon County area for specialty, diagnostic and hospital care
  • Mental health coverage
  • Major medical coverage of at least $100,000
  • Coverage for the entire academic year, including holidays
  • Maternity coverage for female students provided as any other temporary medical condition.

Please use this site as a resource as you decide on the options available to you.  We have a tutorial with chapters earmarked for different populations which will walk you through step by step.

The university sponsored plans for 2009-2010 are offered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida.  Plan comparisons, premiums and benefits summaries are listed in the menu on the left side of this page.  Please review both plans and choose carefully as plans can only be changed during open enrollment.  If you are unsure about which plan may work better for your student, purchase the fall semester coverage only.  Then, if you want to change the coverage for the spring/summer terms, open enrollment for the upcoming semester will open just before registration for spring semester.  There is no Basic Plan for international students.  The comprehensive plan for international students meets all federal, state and Board of Governors rules and regulations regarding health insurance.

Again, let me warmly welcome you to the Florida State family.  The Thagard Student Health Center staff is ready to assist as you transition to college life.  Please let me know if we can make your move into the FSU support system a more positive and enriching experience.

Sincerely,

Lesley Sacher, MHA, FACHE, FACHA
